Small-Ship Cruises

Since October 1990 Zegrahm & Eco Expeditions have brought inquisitive travelers to distant shores all over the world. Zegrahm exclusively charters luxury expedition ships, yachts, icebreakers, and sailing vessels. Onboard amenities include spacious lounges, fine dining, and ocean view cabins, ranging from 16- to 110-passenger capacities. While expedition ships are some of the best means of environmentally responsible travel, there are areas that can’t be reached even by the most nimble vessel, so each ship Zegrahm charters carries a fleet of Zodiacs. These safe, durable, rubber boats allow for landings and explorations anywhere—beaches, coves, shallow river banks, rocky outcrops, coral reef flats, and ice floes.

Expeditions range from two to three weeks in length ensuring an in-depth look at the regions. Keeping the number of travelers on each expedition small allows members personal contact with the leaders and naturalist experts. Most expeditions are led by at least one of Zegrahm’s experienced founders. Staffing each trip with only the best and brightest scientists, naturalists, and historians makes each trip truly unforgettable.

Eco-Expeditions, a sister-company to Zegrahm, offers the opportunity to explore, with like-minded travelers, the shrinking wild places and ancient cultures of the planet. When great distances need to be traversed between destinations, guests do so aboard commercial and chartered aircraft. For country-intensive explorations, where smaller distances are traveled, private motor coaches and open 4x4 vehicles bring travelers closer to wildlife and offer the best photographic vantage points.

Some of the best expedition leaders in the world head up Eco programs through Brazil, Borneo, Mongolia, Botswana, Namibia, Romania, and much more. The number of each group is limited to approximately 10 – 40 participants to ensure that each traveler receives personal attention and closer access to leaders as well as to create an intimate group dynamic. The smaller group size also allows easier access to remote destinations for closer contact with local wildlife and people.

Zegrahm & Eco Expeditions operate trips worldwide and year-round. Each adventure is scheduled for the optimal time to visit each region. While many ship owners are limited to a single ocean, Zegrahm Expeditions has developed programs to all the places travelers most want to go. Itineraries are custom designed and far removed from standard routes; examples include: traveling to Japan in winter showcasing snow monkeys and cranes, venturing across the equator for a unique exploration of the Galapagos, voyaging to the culturally diverse and spectacular islands of Melanesia, or exploring wildlife-rich South Georgia Island and Antarctica.

Expedition prices include all activities, accommodations, meals, and gratuities but do not include airfare. Accommodations and transportation are the best available in each region. A full range of daily activities are offered such as snorkeling or diving, short or long walks, and wildlife-viewing. Cultural performances and demonstrations provide the most valuable and fulfilling experience possible.
