Reports From The Field

Circumnavigation of the Black Sea: Voyage III

Circumnavigation of the Black Sea: Voyage III
We drove inland to Kutaisi, enjoying views of the Caucasus Mountains to our left and the Pontic Alps to our right. Our first stop was at the Gelati Monastery, a working monastery as well as a World Heritage Site, built high in the hills. We explored the complex, and the interesting cemetery where the local custom is to decorate the plots with life-size photos of the deceased.
