Reports From The Field

Beyond Rapa Nui: Voyage II: Tahiti to Fiji

Beyond Rapa Nui: Voyage II: Tahiti to Fiji
"we landed by means of a small creek (near our snorkeling site)just to take a view with the boats and to leave them some trifles to induce the natives to believe we intended them no harm. We were but a few minutes before the Indians rushed out of the woods upon us. They charged down the chasm with the ferocity of wild boars and threw their darts. I was not five paces from one when he threw his spear and had resolved to shoot him to save myself, but I was glad afterwards that it happened otherwise."
