Across the Far North: Spitsbergen to Iceland
May be combined with Across the Far North: Iceland to Greenland
Preview
Set out on an expedition cruise from Spitsbergen to Iceland, discover Arctic wildlife, glittering glaciers, flowering tundra, and active volcanoes of these two fascinating northern lands. Explore Svalbard’s historic mining capital, Longyearbyen before cruising Spitsbergen’s hidden inlets, deeply carved fjords, and rocky outcroppings. We hope to witness massive walrus hauled out on the gravel shores of protected bays and polar bears hunting along the pack ice. Our exploration of Iceland includes outpost fishing villages such as Seydisfjördur; bizarre lava-flows; the sapphire glaciers of Höfn; and Grímsey Island’s 36 species of seabirds.

This first bear was quickly followed by a second, this time on land. After a speedy embarkation into the Zodiacs, we approached very quietly and slowly, securing some excellent observations of the bear consuming a bearded seal that it had killed.
